Dansmastaren Uppsala

Through Ngenic the Pilot ecosystem has engaged three concrete pilot sites where new tools and approaches will be tested and evaluated:

(1) Austerland energi,

(2) BRF Väppebybacke and

(3) BRF Venus. As customers of Ngenic these pilot sites have or are in the process of installing smart meters in a way that enables them to become energy communities in a technical sense. It is the ideal setting for testing new tools and approaches together with enthusiastic stakeholders that are pioneers within the Nordic context in terms of establishing energy communities and exploring its possibilities.

The participation of these actors is based on opening their infrastructure and active participation in for testing of new tools and approaches on a non-for-profit basis as their organisation is non-for-profit. Any costs generated associated with their participation will be covered by SUST (e.g., travel and housing).

To change and better adapt the current situation with regards to the establishment of energy communities the pilot ecosystem has also engaged the City of Uppsala which is the fourth largest city of Sweden and hosts two major universities. The city has committed itself to extensive population growth that entail a commitment to expand the city borders as densification will not meet the need outlined (60% population growth before 2050). While the city is expanding it has also committed itself to becoming climate neutral before 2030 and climate positive by 2050. This means that way energy is managed will be essential throughout the development of the city now and in the future. The city has a strong interest in enabling more energy communities and identifying potential barriers that can be removed or mitigated as well as learning more about the concept to encourage stakeholders involved in the climate contract (amongst others local housing companies) to take steps to establish energy communities.

Actors

Sustainable Innovation (SUST) – https://sustainableinnovation.se/about-us/ – Sustainable Innovation (SUST) is a non-for-profit SME committed to the mission of reduction of CO2 emissions.

Focused on three main areas: (1) Energy, (2) Mobility and (3) Smart Built Environment. With its members comprised of actors from all three focus areas SUST together with partners participate in R&D and R&I projects funded on the national and EU-level. This has resulted in an extensive national and international network of actors that are committed to the reduction of carbon emissions. The pilot will run on the city of Usssala. Also the collaboration of Ngenic will provide with the digital layer for testing the EC. Ngenic is an SME creating a platform for the smart home with a suite of digitalized energy services for consumers, property owners, and energy companies. Ngenic offers Fairshare, which includes individual measurement and billing (AMR) for property owners. Tune Highrise, where residents receive increased comfort and saving energy. Ngenic Tune controls individual villas. When combining these assets, you get the Grid Tuner that act as the smart aggregating logic. Ngenic is currently working with over 70 energy companies as well as over 100 property owners and housing associations.

Relevance on Energy Communities’ framework

Floating solar cell park 1MW will be installed on Gotland within Austerland energi

Not applicable

In all the sites the plan is to use solar cells for local electricity generation and in some cases also solar heat collectors. Local Heatpumps for heat energy generation with local distribution.

Local heat distribution networks between buildings and local electricity within buildings between properties DSO grid will be used.

Individual billing of electricity, shared heat and hot water

Villa and garage-based charging

Plans for batteries and local storage
